Staff - Anna Collette
Anna has 18 years of experience with horses, riding since she was only 3 years old. She got her first pony when she was 7 and has owned horses since then. She now owns a horse named Dewey who she free leases to Healing Strides of VA. She often refers to Dewey as her “four legged soul mate”, as they are a perfect pair. She grew up in the hunter/jumper world but now does dressage with Dewey. She also has a lot of knowledge and love of natural horsemanship, as she has always practiced it with her horses. Anna started volunteering and riding at HSVA in May of 2011 and immediately fell in love with it and everyone there. Anna is in a wheelchair and truly knows the healing power of horses, and she wanted to bring that to other people, with or without disabilities. Anna has never let her wheelchair hold her back from any of her goals with horses, and this wonderful organization has brought her even closer to all of her dreams. She feels completely empowered by everyone at HSVA and she wants to bring that feeling to as many riders as possible.
Anna had the opportunity to join the Mentoring Program at Healing Strides of VA to pursue a lifelong dream of a career with horses. She became a PATH Int’l Certified Instructor in June of 2013 and loves every minute of it! Her next goals include showing her horse, going to the Paralympics and continuing her education as an instructor pursuing the upper levels all the way to Master Instructor. Anna knows that with her wonderful family at HSVA and her trusty steed Dewey by her side, nothing is out of her reach!
