Healing Strides of VA (HSVA) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization established in 1991. We are located on 28 acres with 2 large pastures, 5 paddocks, an enclosed arena, a Mental Health, Learning, and Coaching dedicated building, and a large outdoor arena. Our staff is professionally licensed, certified, or trained for their various expertise to serve our community!
HSVA is the only Premier Accredited Center (PAC) with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Riding Int’l (PATH) in the Roanoke Valley. All of our instructors are PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (the ONLY independently accredited credentials in the equine industry, accredited by The National Council of Certifying Agencies (NCCA)), Advanced Riding Instructors, USHJA Certified Trainers, or instructors-in-training and all hold CPR/first aid certifications.
We are an Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy Program(EAAT) which includes Therapeutic Riding (serving anyone with “personal challenges” seeking to ride/learn about horses), Equine Assisted Learning(EAL), Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Hippotherapy, and several other programs related to equine therapies. Healing Strides of VA chooses to use ARCHas our primary model for EAP and EAL and teach balanced seat riding, with an emphasis on the horse first mentality! We focus on equitation and correct use of the aids, so that we can open clear communication between horse and rider as they progress towards their goals!
The enclosed Harry and Lavon Webb Arena officially opened in 2015, with a large viewing/family arena that is covered but breezy (with the option to close it during cold months) where we serve the majority of our participants. The outdoor arena has sand and rubber footing, where we do most of our jumping. Our professional offices and therapy rooms are located in theHannah’s House of Hope building, directly connected to the Harry and Lavon WebbArena, with large viewing windows.
Adjacent to the Harry and Lavon Webb area is the MHLC building, a dedicatedspace for our Mental Health, Coaching and Education programs, our LeadershipPrograms and other ground based programs. It houses two offices, the feed room, four additional stalls with small turnout for two of them, and a partiallycovered arena.
